This photo amuses me
A local race shop put out a feeler Tuesday on facebook looking for a stock 1.6 Miata exhaust manifold. Apparently, they are in the process of converting an old track Miata into a spec car and couldn’t find a stock manifold from their normal sources on short notice (race is tomorrow, I believe). A friend tagged me in the post and I got in touch with them.
They offered to swap on the longtube header and exhaust from that car in exchange for my 1.6 factory header. They also said they’s throw in the cheap coilovers it had and some interior panels that are much nicer condition than mine.
Couldn’t really turn down an offer like that so I swung by today and let them have at it. Also scored a pretty cheap hardtop they had laying around taking up space.
Driving back, exhaust is a little bit loud, but that kind of matches with the rest of the car so I’ll leave it like that a while. Of course, if I blow sound at the track I’m putting one of my spare stock mufflers back on.

Hah that is awesome! I paid good money to put a full exhaust and coilovers on my Miata. Would have much rather went this route. Most annoying part is my shit isnt CARB legal so I have replace half of it again anyways since I moved to CA. But it is worth every penny for good exhaust on these cars. I am absolutely addicted to tunnels and narrow canyons for eargasms. Plus that extra 5-10 hp above 5k is significant when you start out sub 150 (~5% increase).
What tires are you going with? And did you do the front sway bar? Those are the number one and two mods as far as I am concerned. Totally transforms the way the car handles. Goes from pretty good to amazing.

Ahh, the people’s republic and their silly emissions laws.
Right now I’ve got a set of Federal 595s on daisy’s (which are actually a pretty fun, predictable, and long lasting track tire if you’re not constantly going for PBs) and the rep wheels in the photo are Toyo T1Rs. When it comes time to replace, i’ll be putting on whatever 200tw tire has deals at the time. Haven’t done any swaybar work yet, was going to throw on the coils, take it out and see what it needs. I’ll look in to it.

You basically multiplied the value of your Miata by six with that hardtop alone provided it’s an original and in good condition. Nice.

Negative, it’s a fiberglass top, and off of a racecar so not pretty. But it was also very cheap.

It’ll do, just make sure the brackets and seals are good! A hardtop isn’t that great if it can’t keep the rain out!

Nahh, just the full exhaust. The header was what they really needed to get off my car and offered free install. Have the coilovers and the interior panels in boxes. It works out, I generally prefer to turn the wrench myself on anything that could easily cause a crash. It’s a habit I picked up from motorcycles.
I’ll grab some pics over the weekend when I install the rest (hopefully on my very own freshly installed two post lift!)

Oh certainly! Wasn’t even expecting to pick up a hard top, that was never discussed when we talked previous. When we were going over the parts that they were planning to trash he asked “Oh, do you need a hard top?”
I responded “Sure?”
And we made a deal.
